After talking about Indonesia, we decided to go see it for my birthday! we went to Mini Indonesia, where the five biggest islands: Java, Sumatra, Suwalisi, Papua, and Borneo are represented- with the clothes, customs, and even complete houses! It was crazy! Afterwards we went to the supermarket to buy more food and came home. An hour later, we went out again for my birthday dinner and without having any meat, i have yellow rice- nasi kuring, and some other stuff that was pleasantly both sweet and spicy. I was very impressed with whoever made it :)
along this journey i found golden nuggets- aka - little tidbits of info on Indonesia that I gathered from watching :) i'll be trying to remember them and write them down throughout my journey. becuase they can get pretty interesting!
1. they use water to wipe instead of toliet paper as far as i hear: i haven't tried it yet because i don't really know how that would work, but maybe someday in this nine months i'll get up the courage to get out of my toliet paper comfort zone.
2. there are so many kids and families that in jakarta, you are only allowed to drive a car if there are 3+ people in it
3. spoons replace knives. and they are way more helpful at times :)
4. it may be hot, but it's honestly not that hot- you just need to drink water-- at least for me right now!
5. the skirts for school do not zip straight up, they wrap around you first, and then button on the side
6. the toilet and shower in the bathroom i use are so close and on the same level that if you were a guy you could multi-task
7. don't drink the shower water, tap water, or any water from sinks- there are even capri sun looking packs with water in them.. instead of tap water, because it's so polluted
8. when it rains, it pours- and banana leaves can't cover you
